Certum enhances identity
verification thanks to
unique LEI identifiers

The certification center of Asseco Data Systems will issue SSL/TLS certificates containing LEI (Legal Entity Identifier) – an identifier assigned to legal entities for authenticating their identity. All organizations conducting financial transactions are required to have this unique code.

The new service is a result of Asseco’s cooperation with Ubisecure, a GLEIF (Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation) accredited LEI issuer. The code assigned to an organization is unique on a global scale and the only one approved by G20 countries. To date, approximately 1.6 million identifiers have been issued. Having a LEI is especially necessary for organizations from the financial sector, such as banks or brokerage houses.

We have been constantly developing our products so that our clients can benefit from secure trust services that meet global standards – said Tomasz Litarowicz, Director of Security and Trust Services Division of Certum, Asseco Data Systems. The LEI identifier is an important attribute that enhances TLS/SSL certificates. In addition, the RapidLEI service, provided by Ubisecure, will enable our team to issue TLS/SSL certificates with the highest level of identity reliability – he added.

The identifier is renewable annually which means that it already aligns with the new requirements for CAs to issue SSL/TLS. Thanks to the identifier, each institution and natural person is able to see the identity of a given institution, by entering its number in a free and public LEI database.

Certum joining Ubisecure’s LEI program for CAs shows Asseco’s commitment to delivering even more enhanced trust services in its TLS/SSL products. Certum has a strong partner network and many customers throughout Europe, and we’re very excited to play our part delivering the value that LEI provide to a wider, Certificate-focused customer base – said Chris Hudson, Director of Channel at Ubisecure’s RapidLEI division.

There have been many changes in recent years to improve the security delivered by TLS/SSL Certificates. By incorporating LEIs as an organisation identifying attribute, we see a positive action to also enhance how Certificates deliver transparency, trust, and accountability. As both a Certum and RapidLEI partner, we welcome this partnership and the potential it brings – said Patrycja Tulińska, CEO at PSW GROUP:

Certum’s LEI-enabled Certificates are available via its global partner network including PSW GROUP.
