Key urban services available in Metropolis Platform:

City Card Module is a safe identifier of an inhabitant that enables the use of a complete range of urban services, in particular, public transport, parking zones, urban charges. It includes a set of processes associated with the life cycle of the City Card (personalized as well as bearer) allowing it to be used in the system of automatic collection of fees for using public transport, as well as constituting a key identification element of the client under the modern Urban Services System.

Metropolis Portfolio includes also solutions of “Card-Based” and “ID Based” class.

“Card-Based” – classic implementation of a safe City Card used for the needs of public transport, where the Card is a reference carrier of permissions for travel (tickets, points, IPE). The implemented project is a Silesian Public Services Card (ŚKUP). ŚKUP combines several features:

  • carrier of periodic and subscription tickets,
  • electronic money instrument, making it possible to pay for public services,
  • user identifier (personalized card),
  • carrier of electronic signature certificate,
  • the card is friendly for the blind and visually impaired people.

“ID Based” – new approach to collecting fees for urban services, under which the Client using the safe identifier (e.g. placed in the City Card) has access to Urban Services, which he settles in “post-paid” model.

The “ID Based” model, over the next few years, will be the leading model of providing Urban Services in Smart Cities.

Regardless of the assumed model, the City Card will be the key element of provision of services for many years to come, e.g. in public transport, ensuring the necessary safety of the system’s owner, as well as convenience for its Users.

Metropolis Platform is a comprehensive set of products and services ensuring the efficient launching of solutions supporting modern public transport. It supports the following areas:

  • ITSM: transport infrastructure management,
  • SDIP: dynamic passenger information,
  • AFC: automatic fee collection for travel integrated with the City Card system.

The Public transport module was constructed using tested infrastructure (AEP manufacturers, Microelectronics, R&G) as well as an integrated modern central system. The system also ensures the necessary elements for operational control, as well as conducting the analysis of public transport operation.

Metropolis Platform is able to process in on-line mode as well as store and provide analytical tools for data associated with the provision of services of public transport acquired both from vehicles (e.g. data from GPS, data on executing planned courses by drivers, information on advances/delays, data on rolling-stock filling, alerts communicated by Drivers, service events associated with rolling-stock).

Metropolis Platform provides tools allowing the transport network to be efficiently tuned in the agglomeration, contributing to the improvement of its efficiency (and thus reduction of costs), as well as the increase of comfort of public transport users.

The Environmental quality measurement module is a comprehensive solution ensuring the acquisition, analysis and presentation of data from weather stations and many environmental sensors located within the urban space. The platform has a set of connectors for connecting the tested sensors of various classes (e.g. Libellium, Ayeeka). In particular, it permits the measurement of key indicators associated with the quality of air within the area of agglomeration covered by implementation, such as:

  • air temperature,
  • air humidity,
  • pressure,
  • CO/CO2,
  • Dust (PM1, PM2.5, PM10).

The measurement of air quality as well as storage of data for the analysis of the impact of factors responsible for excessive dust are the necessary elements of the strategy for combating the phenomenon of smog in agglomerations.

It is also possible to supplement the metrics associated with air measurements with other aspects associated with the environment:

  • noise measurement,
  • light intensity measurement,
  • soil moisture measurement.

Sensors performing the measurements transmit the data to the central part of the Metropolis platform using Internet of Things class solutions. Data transmitted by sensors are supplemented with a number of metadata ensuring their subsequent efficient analysis, in particular, the time stamp and globalization information.

The key analytical mechanisms, which are provided by the Metropolis platform, include:

  • Spatial analysis: data coming from the environmental sensors can be visualized on maps ensuring implementation of subsequent spatial analysis using GIS tools; they permit the creation of, e.g. a noise map, dust map (smog), CO2 emission map;
  • Indicators measurement: Metropolis enables to define the number of indicators, the measurement of which is the responsibility of the analytical platform;
  • Analysis of trend/regression: the key mechanisms of data analysis enabling further predictive analysis of the situation associated with the metropolis environment.

The Paid parking zones module is a comprehensive solution for the management of the paid parking zone and collection of parking fees, constructed using dedicated parking meters and an integrated central system, making it possible to be integrated with the city card system.

Metropolis Platform ensures appropriate tools for the management of parking zones (Park&Ride model), as well as for conducting analyses within the scope of, among others, occupancy of parking zones, time of vehicle standstill – supporting in making right decisions concerning the operation of existing parking zones or establishment of new ones.

The Variable message signs module is a comprehensive solution ensuring the management and presentation of information in the urban space using variable message signs.

Dynamic passenger information can be integrated with mobile solutions operating in the selected groups of vehicles (e.g. buses, trams providing public transport) and it can present information on the real time of travel, expected delays or obstacles to the passengers.

The Video monitoring module is a comprehensive solution ensuring the presentation and analysis of data from city video monitoring, created by using components of leading manufacturers (i.a. CISCO Sensity); it can be integrated with the sub-system of Intelligent lighting. This module also ensures advanced algorithms of picture analysis enabling to automatically detect threats and adverse events.

The Video monitoring module is equipped with alerts and messages associated with structures in the urban space, which enable the automatic monitoring of operational parameters of individual devices (e.g. cameras, sensors, automates), as well as their storage and subsequent analysis.

The intelligent lighting module is a comprehensive lighting management solution built using the components from leading lighting manufacturers (e.g. Phillips) and an integrated central lighting management and monitoring system.

The features of the intelligent lighting module:

  • It enables effective monitoring of the functioning of modern lighting zones;
  • It can provide remote management functionality of elements of a modern lighting zone;
  • It provides measurable financial benefits related to the operation of modern lighting zones in the city;
  • It can be equipped with further sensors – e.g. video cameras, weather stations, pollution measurement;
  • The analysis of lighting data makes it possible to optimize the budget and improve the comfort of living in the city.

The metropolis platform also provides an analytical and reporting feature for the lighting segment, enabling the presentation and analysis of key indicators related to power consumption, light intensity and infrastructure reliability.

The Metropolis Tourist Guide mobile application is an original solution developed by Asseco Data Systems that uses beacon technology. The management of Bluetooth transmitters is done via the Metropolis platform, which provides the user with an intuitive method of adding new beacons, changing their location or managing the content presented in the mobile app through the addition/removal of descriptions or photos.

The Metropolis Tourist Guide mobile application is intended for users visiting the city, who want to know something more about the valuable places than what is usually given in classic tourist guides. Using a mobile app in combination with beacons placed in key landmarks of the city creates unconventional and interactive end-user experience. Discovering new places will allow you to better understand historical landmarks, which, combined with unlocking additional achievements for discovering valuable places on a city map increases the involvement and knowledge of the user.

The application visuals are available in Google Play.

The Metropolis Tourist Guide mobile application is equipped with the following modules:

  • Map module,
  • Attraction module,
  • Attraction module,
  • Achievement module,
  • Contact module.

The mobile application can be extended with additional Metropolis modules, such as:

  • Parking lots – including a functionality of navigation to the selected parking lot,
  • Incidents – in three simple steps the user notifies the appropriate services, e.g. on the current event/incident in the city (a hole in the road, illegal firepots or an abandoned vehicle).

Map Module

The heart of the Metropolis Tourist Guide application is the map module (Open Street Map), where markers are placed on the list of places valuable for tourists:  places of tourist attraction, tourist information points, current location of the application user. The module works in such a way that after clicking on the marker, several options to select appear, like: go to (i.e. navigation), brief description of the place and photo of the place.

Each marker highlighted on the map is a beacon. Once the beacon is in the user’s range, an interaction takes place:

  • the user is granted status/achievement, e.g. Novice Wanderer. Then, depending on the next discovered monuments, the status/achievement changes to e.g. Discoverer of Rzeszów or Frequent Visitor of Rzeszów (nomenclature to be determined),
  • Additional content in the form of a photo is displayed along with a description defined on the web version of Metropolis,
  • Instead of reading the text, the user is given the possibility to listen to the narrative description of the monument (Text To Speech functionality from Google),
  • the monument visited by the user will be marked on the map.

The map module will be available in Polish and English with the possibility of extending the application by additional language versions.

Attraction module

This module provides full descriptions of monuments where the Bluetooth transmitters are located. The details of this information are defined by the administrator on the web version of Metropolis (bold title, detailed description or photo gallery).

Achievement module

This module includes trophies/achievements. For example, once the application user is awarded with a certain number of trophies/achievements, he/she will be able to collect a prize (e.g. a mug, jersey, flash drive with the city logo to be collected at the information point, or another prize from partners participating in the project).

Contact module

The Contact module contains contact information, important phone numbers and e-mail addresses available on the official website of the city, making it easy for the user to access this information.

Additional modules:

  • Parking lots – based on the parking lots availability data (in the existing or the target system with sensors in certain locations) in a city equipped with a vehicle counting system, the application presents the occupancy of parking spaces. This information significantly reduces the number of vehicles in the center looking for free parking spaces, which has a positive effect on the quality of air. The user will be informed on the number of free spaces within a given parking lot, with the option of being navigated to the selected parking space.
  • Incidents – the application has the function of informing relevant departments about incidents in the city. These incidents are, e.g. damaged road surface, a broken streetlight, etc. The user, by taking photos and entering a brief description of the damage, will send the information directly to the appropriate services receiving this type of notifications. In three easy steps, the User can define the problem, categorize it accordingly and add attachments in the form of camera snapshots with comments, at the same time sending the current location of the incident.
Technology

The Metropolis platform is modular. Main modules – Metropolis Core based on Java technology, user interface module based on HTML 5 allows access to the system through all popular Internet browsers:
